Catherine Frot was born on May 1, 1957, to an engineer father and a mathematics teacher mother. Of early vocation, with a sensitive predilection for the comic, she follows from the age of fourteen the courses of the conservatory of Versailles, while continuing the school.
She entered school in Rue Blanche in 1974 and then at the Conservatoire.
